Volunteers building gardens
You might be wondering, who is Feeding Many and where are you working? Isn’t that what you were thinking? Well, we are expanding very quickly in the Denver area and in some cases, beyond this area.
We plant gardens in many different locations. This year, we started putting gardens in backyards of those who wanted them, especially in areas where people are struggling to feed their families. With the help of Jovial Concepts, we’ve put in 77 backyard gardens this year. Jovial Concepts supplies the plants and seeds to start the gardens.
Level 3 Broomfield Gardens and Orchard
Another project which is completed for this year, is in Broomfield at Level 3. They have a plan to put in a community garden in a park-like location. This year we built 50 gardens at their Ribbon Garden. Next year, we’ll put in more gardens and then fruit trees as they grow.
Garden to Lunch Program -Area Schools
This fall, we’ll be adding Peiffer Elementary school to the schools that are participating in the Garden to Lunch Program. We’ll build the gardens and then volunteers and students will plan and plant the gardens in the spring. This is a great learning opportunity for the students and great projects for the teachers to participate in, using hands-on learning. Most of the food will be used in the school lunch program, but any excess will be donated to food shelves and food banks.
Southern Gables Church has garden plots for people to plant, then donate a percentage of the food grown to the church’s food bank. We’re working closely w/them on their food bank, and now coordinating delivery of McDonalds frozen burgers and sandwiches. All of this will provide much-needed food in the Denver area.
TNC – The Neighborhood Church helps support Feeding Many through volunteer opportunities and donations. They have been very helpful as we’ve grown and continue to support the ministry.
The Church of the Latter Day Saints also has provided Feeding Many with numerous volunteers for work days in the orchard and will continue to help with projects as they come up.

One of our biggest projects is the Community Fruit Orchard in Littleton. It’s been 8 years in the making and this year we’ll have a bumper crop! The orchard has many fruit trees such as: nectarines, peaches, apricots, plums, apples and pears. You’ll also find grapes galore and honey bees. This year, we hope to harvest more fruit than we ever have. We also predict about 300 pounds of honey. If you want to take a tour of the Community Orchard, please call Shirl for a tour.
